I’m Joe Styler, the person behind Pender County Legal Resource Center. I research and edit the North Carolina legal guides published here and stand behind the work. I want to be clear about one thing up front: I’m not an attorney, and these guides aren’t legal advice.

Who I am
I’ve spent more than two decades working in online business and the domain name industry, building and publishing information resources and helping people get things done on the internet. Pender County Legal Resource Center is one of those projects — a plain-English guide to North Carolina law as it actually applies in Pender County, paired with a way to reach a licensed local attorney when you need one.
My role here is research and editing, not legal practice. I read the statutes, explain what they mean in language a non-lawyer can use, and connect readers with attorneys who can advise on their specific situation. I think there’s real value in helping someone understand what they’re facing before they walk into a lawyer’s office — that’s the job I’m trying to do well.
How I research these guides
Every guide on this site is researched before it’s published, and re-checked when the law changes. The process:
- I identify the North Carolina General Statutes that govern the topic and read them directly at ncleg.gov.
- I check court and procedural details against the North Carolina Judicial Branch.
- I write it in plain language a non-lawyer can actually use, with the statute citations shown so you can verify them yourself.
- I re-check guides when North Carolina law changes and note the review date at the top of each page.
This is a research-and-writing process, not a legal review. I do my best to be accurate and current, but only a licensed attorney can review the facts of your specific case and tell you how the law applies to you. That’s exactly why this site exists — to get you to that attorney.
What this site is — and isn’t
